écoconstruction Context

The Eco construction Team project  meets the training needs of the construction trades in the eco-construction industry which is undergoing substantial changes involving new competences  to enable it to face up to the present stakes in the energy sector. At the same time, it is necessary to harmonize knowledge and competences of those involved in the construction industry at a European level. The building industry in Europe does in fact employ 26 million workers.

The present training situation in this sector :

  • professional training in eco-construction has been set up in isolation to meet a specific demand

  • the existing training tools are aimed at the design of buildings intended for architects, engineers and decision-takers
  • a lack of qualified workers with supply not matching demand
  • the existing training at European level is dispersed and often intended for self builders rather than in keeping with company needs .

The response to the stakes involved :

The partners of the project should:

  • analyze the required competences in eco-construction
  • create a reference system for «competences», «training» and «certification» at technician level «Eco-builder»
  • create a transnational network of resource centers in eco-construction in order to inform as well as possible those working in the building industry

Validation of results with target-users

  • setting up a training and a pilot evaluation process for companies in Latvia
  • following up of activities by national working parties (professional organizations, teaching and vocational training institutions)
